Bilateral relations between Taiwan and India have improved significantly since 1990s.
Taiwan and India have signed a number economic cooperation agreements including
the agreement on double taxation avoidance and customs cooperation. Both sides are
now looking into the feasibility of a bilateral free trade agreement.
Prof.Madhav Das Nalapat, a professor at India’s Manipal University
said the FTA is likely to be signed by the end of the year.
President Ma Ying-jeou’s stopover in Mumbai, India, on his way to Africa in April
reflects substantial progress in Taiwan-India relations. India seems willing to
enhance relations with Taiwan even though it remains unchanged in its “one-China” policy.
